Personal steps per trip from January 10th to February 10th:
Color: amount of steps, yellow to red - fewer to many
Stroke Weight: amount of steps, thin to thick - fewer to many
Transparency: amount of step, opaque to transparent - fewer to many
White Ellipses: most common locations
I agreed to allow an app called Moves to track my location for a month in the beginning of 2017. Location tracking is a widespread (and controversial) service with a standard of visualizing that information. To visualize my personal location data, I decided to attenuate the relationship between the distance of a trip and the steps taken on that trip (which was not a linear relationship since trips were blindly recorded whether walking, or using cars, subways, etc.). As the locations data mapped to the corresponding coordinates I represented the number of steps taken through color, transparency, and stroke value - where less steps are yellower in color, less transparent and thinner in stroke.
